Famous Actors of Yeşilçam Came Together with Turkish Cinema Summer School Students

Türkan Şoray and Ediz Hun, being among the doyens/doyennes of Turkish cinema history, came together with 23 young filmmakers from 20 countries within the scope of the program of Turkish Cinema Summer School.

Yeşilçam’s famous actors Türkan Şoray and Ediz Hun met foreign guests and a large audience within the scope of the Turkish Cinema Summer School program organized by Yunus Emre Institute with the cooperation of the Istanbul Sehir University and the contributions of the General Directorate of Cinema.

The opening of the program which took place at the Dragos Campus of Istanbul Sehir University was realized by Prof. Dr. Şeref Ateş, the President of Yunus Emre Institute, stating that the institute designed “Turkish Cinema Summer School” by developing a new project within the scope of “Turkish Summer School” program which has been organized for 9 years and that the first organization of this program was realized with the participation of 23 young filmmakers from 20 countries.

In an interview program moderated by Prof. Dr. Peyami Çelikcan, the Chancellor of İstanbul Şehir University, famous names shared their experiences and memories of Turkish cinema and cinema adventures with young filmmakers.

The famous actress Türkan Şoray expressed that the foreign participants chose one of the most exclusive professions in the world and that they would be very happy due to this choice in the future. Explaining that she has played a leading role in more than 230 films including some of the most important films of Turkish cinema and she has directed 5 films so far, Şoray stated that being an actress is a way of life for her, but the experience of directing a movie has added her different feelings.

Afterward, Ediz Hun began to speak and emphasized that the cinema will be moved forward through young people. He also underlined that this branch of art should not be considered as a cinema screen solely, but it also covers a wider area such as new kinds of video, documentary and animation.

After the interview, Türkan Şoray presented her book, “My Cinema and Me”, in which she wrote up her own story, to 23 students coming to Turkey.

The program ended with an open-air broadcast of the film “Güllü”, in which both famous names shared the leading roles.
