Commemoration Event for Prof Halil İnalcık at the London Yunus Emre Institute

Dr Fatih Bayram, from Medeniyet University in Turkey and Dr. Chrtistine Woodhead from Durham University were the speakers for this commemoration event which was chaired by Dr Michael Talbot, Greenwich University. Assistant Prof Fatih Bayram, one of the İnalcık’s former students, talked about the years that İnalcık spent in London and its influence in his academic studies. Additionally he shared some his memories with Prof İnalcık. Historian Dr. Christine Woodhead, in her speech, explained why İnalcık’s works became universally important in academia by giving some examples from his studies. Also, Dr. Woodhead spoke about scholars and works that had great influence on Prof İnalcık. 

The memorial programme was followed by considerable number of both English and Turkish speaking people, including academics. Şehzade Mahmud Namık Osmanoğlu, a member of the Ottoman Family and Dr Mehmet Karakuş, the director of the London Yunus Emre Enstitüsü were also present.
