Ottoman Turkish Courses is Starting!

1.    OTTOMAN TURKISH COURSE FOR BEGINNERS

The course will provide the students with the necessary skills to read and understand Ottoman Turkish written in the Arabo-Persian alphabet. Ottoman Turkish as a written language was the direct predecessor of modern Turkish spoken today in Turkey and large geography outside of Turkey that used to form a part of the Ottoman Empire.

At the end of the course, the students will be awarded a certificate of achievement.

*The class  requires specific knowledge of the Turkish language to the level of at least B2.

Course Dates: Saturdays, 1st February – 4th April 2020

Times: 4 pm – 6 pm

 

2.    OTTOMAN TURKISH COURSE FOR INTERMEDIATE LEVELS

The course will provide the students with the necessary skills to read and understand Ottoman Turkish written in the Arabo-Persian alphabet. Ottoman Turkish as a written language was the direct predecessor of modern Turkish spoken today in Turkey and large geography outside of Turkey that used to form a part of the Ottoman Empire.

The students participating in the course will improve their reading by working on texts from the 19th century. The fundamental principles of Turkish grammar and syntax will be frequently reviewed. The students will also be introduced to the Arabic and Persian elements incorporated into Ottoman Turkish. Another important aspect of this course is to familiarize the students with the use of dictionaries to solve problems encountered in the assigned texts.

At the end of the course, the students will be awarded a certificate of achievement.

*The class  requires specific knowledge of the Turkish language to the level of at least B2.

 

Course Dates: Saturdays, 1st February – 4th April 2020

Times: 1:45 pm – 3:45 pm

 

3. OTTOMAN HİSTORY THROUGH OTTOMAN TEXTS 

The course will provide the students with the necessary skills to read and understand Ottoman Turkish written in the Arabo-Persian alphabet. Ottoman Turkish as a written language was the direct predecessor of modern Turkish spoken today in Turkey and large geography outside of Turkey that used to form a part of the Ottoman Empire.

Advanced levels will be more reading intensive and students will gain knowledge on Ottoman History by reading significant texts of the era. The fundamental principles of Turkish grammar and syntax will be revisited from time to time.

At the end of the course, the students will be awarded a certificate of achievement.

*The class  requires specific knowledge of the Turkish language to the level of at least B2.

Course Dates: Wednesdays, 29th January – 8th April* 2020

Times: 6 pm – 8 pm

* There will not be a lesson on 1st April.
