1. OTTOMAN TURKISH COURSE FOR BEGINNERS

Ottoman Turkish was the direct predecessor of modern Turkish spoken today in Turkey and large geography outside of Turkey that used to form a part of the Ottoman Empire. This ONLINE course will be an introduction to basics of Ottoman Turkish through learning the alphabet and readings in printed text selections. The fundamental principles of Turkish grammar and syntax will be frequently reviewed. The students will also be introduced to the Arabic and Persian elements incorporated into Ottoman Turkish. Another important aspect of this course is to familiarize the students with the use of dictionaries to solve problems encountered in the assigned texts.

*The class  requires specific knowledge of the Turkish language to the level of at least B2.

Classes will take place through ZOOM or SKYPE, online platforms.

2.    OTTOMAN TURKISH COURSE FOR INTERMEDIATE LEVELS

Ottoman Turkish was the direct predecessor of modern Turkish spoken today in Turkey and large geography outside of Turkey that used to form a part of the Ottoman Empire. This ONLINE course will provide the students with the necessary skills to read and understand Ottoman Turkish written in the Arabo-Persian alphabet. The students participating in this course will improve their reading and understanding by working on variety of texts which may include chronics, travel books, first person narratives, newspapers, sultan orders, reference works, treatises and letters. Another important aspect of this course is to encourage the students with the use of dictionaries to solve problems encountered in the assigned texts.

The class requires specific knowledge of the Turkish language to the level of at least B2.

Classes will take place through ZOOM or SKYPE, online platforms.

3. OTTOMAN HİSTORY THROUGH OTTOMAN TEXTS 

This ONLINE course will provide the students with the necessary skills to read and understand Ottoman Turkish written in the Arabo-Persian alphabet. Ottoman Turkish as a written language was the direct predecessor of modern Turkish spoken today in Turkey and in the large geography surrounding it that used to form a part of the Ottoman Empire. Advanced levels will be more reading intensive and students will gain knowledge on Ottoman History by reading significant texts of the era.

The class requires specific knowledge of the Turkish language to the level of at least B2.

Classes will take place through ZOOM or SKYPE, online platforms.
